Here's the opening of a novel I managed to get around 32,000 words into until I shelved it. The rest is planned out - and I'm thinking of picking it up again...
I was engaged; I wanted to know at least if Theo gets the job! I was bewildered by some of the dialogue at the beginning since I'm not that familiar with the British higher ed system but that's not a criticism, it's just an admission of my ignorance!😂

I would read more of this.
Written in present tense. Unusual but seems to work.
A lerge proportion of the prose I write is in the present tense. I like the immediacy of it.
It also avoids having to use past perfect tense for flash back.
