Battle of the Sexes
We spoke of the righteousness of war.
Neither out of mind nor out of sight
we languished at the hotel bar
each shot boosting convictions we were right
the others’ argument a blatant lie,
truth corrupted by part-occluded eyes.
How could you deny
my reasoning when yours - propaganda and lies
so coldly delivered -
ignored the primacy of the heart?
How could you be so determined
that we should part
and - in playing your part
to perfection - contrive to break my heart?
