Sometimes you find things that surprise you...
...Or one unexpected kick you can get when editing.
I’m currently editing a long poetic monologue (the sequel to Crash). I drafted it some time ago, and have now decided to pick it up again. In doing so, I have rediscovered a few lines I really like:
sight and sound and touch relegated to memory and memory consigned to oblivion
the void holds him close enchants him with nonexistent music deafens him with silence clothes him in darkness
and wait for the irreconcilable dance for the music of possibilities
have you been there watched the shimmer at the edge of colours or the reverberation of word-sound like an echo imperfectly formed
as if sewn into its fabric in calligraphic embroidery is an apology from others
dredged from memory that suddenly inadequate estuary where silt has usurped water
a breadcrumb trail woven into the fabric of your dream’s end
Whether all these snippets make it into the final version is, at this stage, a moot point; but there is something inherently rewarding in finding that you like something you wrote…
Wow, those are great images! If any of those get cut makes me wonder what you kept!
