An email this morning, out of the blue. The kind of email that is a rare bird - but all the more welcome when it arrives!
I discover I have a short story - “Mirror” - long-listed for the Edinburgh Short Story Prize, 2024, and that the story will be published in the competition anthology to be published in November.
More exciting than that, however, is to find that the story is one of just four - from over 2,800 entries - to be nominated for the associated Scottish Arts Trust ‘Write Mango Award’. This is an additional award for stories which have been specifically nominated by the 60+ readers associated with the Edinburgh prize.
To be nominated in this way - by readers rather than judges - is such a wonderful boost. Priceless, as I say.
The final results of the ‘Write Mango Award’ will be announced on the 28th September. Fingers crossed!
Excellent news Ian! Just when you needed a boost. Writers do need affirmation from time to time!
That's brilliant, Ian. Always so good to have encouraging news!
