remembrance


polished to a high gloss
his shoes pinch him as he walks
not worn since twenty-eighteen
when they lost both Ron and Clive

but today he is making an exception

he looks at a field of knitted poppies
elaborate shell-bursts of post-box covers
when did ceremony cease to be reverent
when did fashion take over

more art installation than solemn…
