I recently visited the very much run-down Grimsby Docks (on the North Lincolnshire coast of England) in order to take some photographs, my intention being to use the images as prompts for poems. Not a new idea obviously, though in my case I was inspired by the Ted Hughes / Fay Godwin collaboration Remains of Elmet (1979).
I don’t want my poems to be mere verbal interpretations of the photographs but rather to use the images as a launching point for something more tangential.
Very much a work in progress, here is the image for “shutters” - and a recording of my initial interpretation of it.
